crestZeta Beta

Loyola Marymount University

Zeta Beta was founded on the Loyola Marymount campus in 1976 by a group of 24 women. We were the first sorority on campus, thus our motto "First and the Finest". Our founders were dedicated, innovative and ambitious women. Their vision was to create a chapter that upholds its ideals in service, scholarship and sisterhood. Today, their vision is now a legacy found in every Zeta Beta chapter member and alumnae.

Alpha Phi was the first sorority to use traveling delegates.

Alpha Phi was founded in 1872 by 10 of the first 20 women to enter Syracuse University.
Alpha Phi is the fourth oldest national women's sorority.
Alpha Phi is one of only three international sororities.
Three of our founders were listed in Who's Who of America: Clara Bradley Burdette, Martha Foote Crow, and Rena Michaels Atchison.
Alpha Phi is pronounced Alpha "fee" (long "e") not "fie," because "Alpha" is a vowel and "Phi" is pronounced "fee" when it follows a vowel.
Alpha Phi's original colors were blue and gold. In 1879, the colors were changed to the more distinctive silver and bordeaux. Blue and gold were the colors of the Fraternity Delta Upsilon, and the change was made in order to truly set our colors apart from any other Greek organization's.
The Alpha Phi Foundation was established in 1957. Zeta Beta donates annually to the Alpha Phi Foundation by holding our philanthropy A-Phi-ASCO.
Alpha Phi is a true "international" sorority. It has maintained the longest continuous presence in Canada of any sorority. The Xi chapter was established at the University of Toronto in 1906.
Alpha Phi has over 175 active alumnae chapters.

Chapter Facts

Alpha Phi at LMU was established in 1976 as the first sorority on campus.
Every year the Zeta Beta Chapter holds its annual philanthropy A-PHI-ASCO in the fall. It is a live and silent auction accompanied by dinner that is hosted and ran solely by the chapter and its members to benefit the Alpha Phi Foundation and the Good Shepherd Shelter. We invite our Friends, family, faculty, community and the LMU campus to attend our event. Last year with the help of our members and our 350 guests we were able to raise over $45,000 dollars. In the last two years we have raised over $100,000 for our two charities, which was recognized by the mayor of Los Angeles as well as Alpha Phi Internationals whom presented us with an excellence award for raising the most money out of any Alpha Phi chapter internationally.
